Ongoing research

PS150 and HT-PS150 are proven to be effective psychobiotic strains for sleep in preclinical models. Current ongoing clinical trials are investigating sleep improvement benefits in healthy populations, and a co-treatment of HT-PS150 + PS128 is used to address sleep issues in autistic children.

How psychobiotics work

Our "microbiota-gut-brain axis" is made up of gut microbes and the two-way connection between our enteric (intestinal) and central nervous systems. Probiotics interact with other gut microbes, our food, and all of the other cells and molecules in our GI tract. Resulting health benefits include SCFAs (short-chain fatty acids), balanced neurotransmitters and hormones, and modified cellular gene expression.

Using multiple pathways from within our gut, PS150 can support sleep quality through the increase of sleep duration, and decrease of sleep latency and recovery time. This may happen due to decreased stress hormone levels, increased brain serotonin levels, and modulation of gut microbiota to favor beneficial microbes.

It was discovered that even after being treated by heat, PS150 postbiotics (HT-PS150) are still very beneficial. HT-PS150 expand the range of applications of this incredible strain.
